Reading at home

In every year group we have a comprehensive reading scheme. This starts from day one in FS2 with Read, Write Inc phonic based books. These books are carefully matched to the sounds children have learnt in class. 

Beyond phonics, once the children have successfully completed the phonics programme, they move to book banded books that further develop their reading and comprehension skills. Throughout a pupil's time at Water Leys, they will continue to progress their reading in a structured way. Book choice is determined through the use of our book banding system so that books are matched closely to the child's reading ability.

In addition to all of this, the children have access to a reading for pleasure library book or a class library book. This reading for pleasure book is solely based on the child's interests.  

Please encourage your child to read regularly at home, ideally daily, as reading is the key to learning!
