Pupils Missing out on Education (PME)
Process
If your child is absent from school and we have not received any notification from you (parent/carer), we will make every effort to contact you.
If your child has been missing from school for 3 days and no contact has been received or made with their parent/carer, we will follow the following steps:
Contact the Education Welfare Officer to conduct a home visit or school staff will undertake a home visit.
If we are unable to contact you at your home address then we will call the Police for a ‘safe and well’ check. We will provide the child’s date of birth, the last day they attended school, why we are concerned about their non-attendance and any other concerns we may have.
If there are safeguarding concerns then our safeguarding and child protection procedures will be followed which will result in a referral being made to Leicestershire Children's Social Services.
If after 10 continuous school days we are unable to locate a pupil's whereabouts then a referral to Leicestershire's Inclusion service will be made.
