Long Multiplication
This week, children have been working hard to understand long multiplication and reasoning questions linked to this area. Reasoning can seem tricky but if the child understand how to do long multiplication, all they need to do is pull out the numbers needed. The children have progressed so much over the last week with long multiplication but they must continue with their timetables as this will only benefit them for both multiplication and division.

Factors and Multiples

Factors are numbers that divide exactly into another number with no remainder.
Start with 1 and the number itself — these are always factors.
Try dividing the number by 2, 3, 4, and so on, up to its square root.
If it divides exactly (no remainder), then both the divisor and the result are factors.
Place Value

So far, our children have been working on place value to numbers in the millions!
We have learnt how important is it to have our place holders and to make sure we are not disappointed when we think we might be getting more than what has actually been given to us! 1,067,009 is very different to 1,679!!!
We have also been working on the use of commas to support us how to write these numbers in words. 'Count Miss McMahon's favourite number! 3! Then put in a comma. 3 again and another comma.'
2,345,232 = two million, three hundred and forty-five thousand, two hundred and thirty-two.
